Software updates
EagleFiler, my long-time favorite file library, has been updated to version 1.3.5. This minor version includes a large number of bug fixes and optimizations, but not any new features per se. Among others are improvements to the Capture with Options window, improvements to how EagleFiler handles and imports mailboxes, and more.
For a detailed list, see the release notes. Definitely a good version to download for current owners of EagleFiler, but there isn’t really anything new to see here otherwise.

Late last week Reinvented Software updated Together to version 2.1.4. This minor version increase fixes an Applescript problem that could cause Together to hang or crash, now has files with the .aac extension imported as sounds (instead of movies), and fixes a number of other bugs.
For more details and to download, see the release notes.

Evernote, the access-anywhere application for storing notes and images, is now an open beta (no more needing to be invited!). Among other changes, this release also finally reveals the Evernote revenue plan: there are now free and premium accounts. Although both accounts can store as much stuff online as you want, the free account only lets you upload 40 megabytes a month while the $5/month premium account allows you to upload 500 megabytes a month (along with a few other perks).
Evernote is very cool, and well worth checking out. Although I’ve been slightly underwhelmed with the Mac client (hopefully I’ll get a preview/review up here soon, although it’s been on the burner for months) the service has a lot to recommend it (for details see the Evernote website or the numerous places around the web where people have been lavishing praise on the service). For details about the recent public beta release, check out the Evernote blog post on the topic.

MarsEdit, my favorite blogging aid, has been updated to version 2.1.4. This minor update doesn’t add any big new features, but provides a Dock menu item for starting a new post, support for uploading to a specific Picasa album for Blogger users, preventing the preview window from loading an arbitrary URL if you dragged it onto it, a fixed display of tags in the main window preview, and a safeguard against crashing on bad URLs.
For more details see the 2.1.4 blog announcement.

Together, a file library whose recent 2.1 update makes it one of the most compelling choices for tag-happy users, was updated today to version 2.1.3. This minor update includes a number of bug fixes, including fixes for a crash that occurred when indexing in the background, preventative measures when trying to link to the same file twice, and a problem where PDF attachments were not displayed in Quick Look previews. the Yojimbo Importer also received a minor update, including the option to choose what kinds of Yojimbo items to import.
For more details or to download, see the Together release notes.

Needless to say, I’ve been a bit remiss in my blog updating the past couple weeks. A four-day weekend spent in the mountains with my girlfriend and new Kindle (and no internet or cell phone access) has had a surprisingly lasting effect on my online habits. I hadn’t realized how much effort I was spending on keeping up to date with the interwebs until I took some time off.
In any case, some great software has received incremental updates in the recent past. Together was updated to version 2.1.2 (release notes), EagleFiler was bumped to 1.3.4 (release notes), Leap is now sitting at 1.0.6 (an update that includes Time Machine support, Danish support, and a couple bug/crash fixes), and Default Folder X is now at 4.0.6 (release notes). Enjoy.

Code Collector Pro has been updated to version 1.2.3. This minor release simply fixes some syncing problems with Codecollector.net, but aside from its version number is otherwise unremarkable.
The update is available via the in-program auto-update, or from the Code Collector Pro website.

Leap, the promising file system tagging solution from Ironic Software, has been updated to version 1.0.5. This minor version is primarily a bug fix release (including fixes for OmniOutliner documents and other custom file types where Spotlight comments would not be set, a new contextual menu for bookmarks, and a crash that could occur when a tag was removed in certain situations), but it also includes at least one fun new feature: you can now exclude tags and file types by command clicking on them in the sidebar, which will turn them red. One of the big annoyances that I have with tagging software is that it usually makes it easy to do AND boolean searches and difficult to do anything else. The ability to do exclusionary searches in Leap with a simple click is definitely welcome.
For more information, you’ll need to view the in-program auto-update notes as Ironic Software does not supply release notes otherwise.

EagleFiler has been updated to version 1.3.3, a minor update that fixes a wide range of bugs and includes some slightly changed functionality for the capturing with options window, new placeholder text in the tags bar to make it more obvious you can edit it, the ability to capture from Opera, and a large number of other minor tweaks and changes.
For more information or to download, see the 1.3.3 release notes.

Together, one of my favorite file libraries (along with EagleFiler and Yojimbo), today received a big update to version 2.1. I can’t wait to give Together 2.1 a spin, as some of its new features are extremely exciting: .Mac syncing, the ability to target specific groups with smart groups (including other smart groups), “group tags” so that when you add an item to a group the tags associated with it are applied to the item automatically, a global hot key for importing, the ability to completely hide the shelf (until you mouse over that part of the screen), two-way syncing for Spotlight comment tags, and automatic importing anything moved into Together’s folders in the Finder.
And that’s just a few of my favorite new features; version 2.1 has a slew of other enhancements available, as well (see the short version or the full release notes for more info). Together was already a great application, but with its improved organization, syncing, and Finder integration, Together 2.1 is a serious competitor with both Yojimbo and EagleFiler (rather than an alternative with different strengths, as I’ve characterized it in the past). With this version also comes a downloadable importer to migrate your Yojimbo database into Together. If you haven’t tried Together yet, I highly recommend you take a peek at the improvements offered in version 2.1. It will be well worth your while.
