Together has been updated to version 2.0.3. This minor update includes improved performance when using tags, importing, or searching; Finder-style sequential number sorting (so that you don’t need leading zeroes to sort sequentially numbered files by name); and many more bug fixes and minor improvements. Definitely worth a download, and if you’re looking to buy it (and a bunch of other apps) at a discount, Give Good Food to Your Mac has been extended until Saturday Dec. 15, 2007.

MacWorld’s Dan Frakes has posted an excellent screencast previewing the upcoming Default Folder X 4.0. Version 4′s main changes are a new HUD-style look to the interface, and QuickLook attached to Open dialogs (a feature that, interestingly enough, will have limited support for OS 10.4, as well). Tag-happy individuals, however, will likely be most interested in Default Folder X’s ability to apply Spotlight comments to files when you save them. If you’re rolling your own tagging solution, Default Folder X can be an indispensable tool.

But don’t wait until version 4! If you want access to some of Default Folder X’s sweet capabilities now, you’re in luck. St. Clair Software has an upgrade policy that will allow you a free upgrade to version 4 if you buy version 3.0.6 now. Version 3 is fully Leopard compatible (as long as you aren’t running any 64-bit apps); it just lacks the translucency. Scrivener, the poster child of Mac writing apps, has been updated to version 1.11. This maintenance update includes a large number of bug fixes, including numerous Leopard fixes, word count oddities, issues with upgrading pre-1.1 documents to 1.1, problems with tables, and many, many more. Widow/orphan control has also been completely removed from the program because it was causing too many difficult to quash bugs (and is fairly silly in a program that doesn’t offer page layout).

Webjimbo, the web-based portal to your Yojimbo library, has been updated to version 2.1. This version now supports Yojimbo 1.5 (requires it, in fact) and provides minor fixes to password and serial number searching to bring Webjimbo more in line with Yojimbo.

WebnoteHappy, probably the best of the Mac bookmark managers, and Booxter, an intriguing alternative to Delicious Library (with admittedly mediocre tag support), are offered as MacSanta featured items today December 8, 2007 only for 20% off with the coupon “MACSANTA07″. If you miss out, though, you’ll still be able to get them for 10% for the rest of December.

I definitely recommend trying out WebnoteHappy if you haven’t already. Although it has some limitations (like only supporting del.icio.us and not my favored Ma.gnolia), it’s still a very nicely designed piece of software with solid tagging support.

Code Collector Pro, the tag-based code snippets manager, has been updated to version 1.1.1. This minor release fixes a crash for PPC users when syntax highlighting was turned on, and as such is highly recommended for all users. For more info and release notes, visit the Code Collector Pro page.

In more exciting news, the developer posted a very tantalizing link along with the update notes to CodeCollector.net. Although I don’t have any insider info or anything, it would appear that he is busy at work designing a web counterpart to Code Collector Pro. I haven’t been using Code Collector myself (because my most-used snippets are in TextMate bundles and I haven’t had time to track down the lesser used ones), but if a future version of Code Collector allows you to sync your snippets online and then access them from anywhere (maybe share them with others?), then I’m ready to set some time aside and start collecting that code.

Yojimbo, the super-simple file library from Bare Bones Software that excels at synchronization, has been updated to version 1.5. The biggest addition to Yojimbo is support for images; you can now toss your photos and so forth into Yojimbo and tag away. (A note from Bare Bones: “Please do not try to replace iPhoto, Aperture, or Lightroom with Yojimbo: You’ll make us cry.”) Yojimbo’s tags are also now searchable via Spotlight, searching and filtering has been greatly improved, and numerous Leopard bugs have been squashed (including problems with the Drop Dock in Spaces).

In a day with a number of point releases and bug fixes to tagging software already, this one definitely stands out. Yojimbo 1.5 is a worthy update to one of the three best file libraries available, and well worth downloading (it’ll be the last version you have to download yourself, since it now has auto-updating available). If you’d like more details about the update, see the Yojimbo release notes. The update is free to all registered users, and a normal individual license for Yojimbo costs $39.

Pukka, the del.icio.us client for Mac OS X, has been updated to 1.6.5. This minor update includes many changes and optimizations to minimize the possibility of getting throttled by the del.icio.us API, along with better error reporting to keep the user in the loop. The update also fixes a number of other problems and potential problems, including improvements to Spotlight performance and fixes for a couple of small memory leaks.

Code Collector Pro, a storage area for snippets of code that features tag-based organization, has been updated to version 1.1. This version includes menubar access to snippets (Leopard only), commands to add snippets from the Services menu and clipboard, significantly improved syntax highlighting, and the ability to grab language information from TextMate.

Cha-Ching, that tag-a-rific personal finance manager, has been updated to version 1.2.1. This minor update brings an enhanced preferences panel, autofill to multi-edit title fields, and a number of minor bug fixes. Definitely a good update to install if you already use Cha-Ching, and not really anything to see otherwise.

There are sadly no release notes outside of the in-program auto-updating, so tough luck if you’re curious. In other news, both MacWorld and TUAW posted this update. Which makes sense, because there’s so many new…yeah, okay, I don’t understand the more mainline Mac press at all. Cha-Ching’s still a cool little app that deserves some love, though, so give it a whirl if you haven’t already. For those with simple needs in the finance-tracking department, it’s a great choice.
